who am i?
my name is jalen meares. i go by jaymeares though. it’s nice to have you here today. i'm a freelance creative specializing in captivating art, insightful consultation, and tailored creative direction.
so, how did i get here?
ya know, for all of my childhood and young adulthood (even though i’m 24; should tell you a lot) i wanted to be a professional basketball player. long story short, it wasn’t meant for me to play despite me being very talented and actually good at the sport. in 2020, i was faced with the reality that my dream of playing had faded away and i needed to pivot. i tried to do corporate because that’s what the world tells you to do and my life was all about basketball, so i needed to find out how else i could use my talents and skills to achieve freedom [my definition of success].
2021, i got my first corporate HR internship at a company called DC Green Bank and that opportunity opened my eyes that my skills easily transferred over to the business world. 2024, i got my first job in the federal government with the EPA. even though i had capabilities to be a good employee, it wasn’t fulfilling. it felt like something was missing. and it was.
all my life, being creative was always on the back burner due to my hoop dreams, even though it was something i was always naturally good at and enjoyed whenever i had a class or project in school that involved art. never thought of it as being something that would be my “life”. (but, here i am lol!)
oh yeah, i quit EPA, forgot to mention that. so, there i am, with all of the time and freedom in the world to choose who and what i wanted to be. took awhile, but i would reflect and look at my life openly and i said to myself “you know what, let’s give this a try and see that happens. what’s the worst that could happen, i’m already unemployed!” i then realized, when gathering all the artworks i’ve done over the years that i had a lot of material, good material, which then created a very nice portfolio.
truthfully, that’s when it hit me that i could really do something within this space.
my most known art is what i call “listening sessions” which is a playlist full of songs that take you through a beautiful journey for one hour, but we dancing, all night! i make an hour feel like a lifetime. although, that is just one of the ways i can express my creativity, in fact, i believe there is no bound that can limit it.
specializing in abstract art, i create unique, flow state art that focuses on emotional expression using colors, forms, and shapes. from ceramics, paintings, drawings, photography, interior design, architecture, and simply, exquisite taste, make up the essence of my range.
[don’t take my word for it, see for yourself.]
i am a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional individual. there is no limit on my creativity. nor do i ever want to restrict it, under any circumstance. that makes me a singular rarity or as i will coin myself “the sole exception”. bold statement right? i prove it true time and time again. i recognize that is a blessing to say, and i never (and never will) take it for granted.
